Black Jack Fig

Large, purplish-brown figs with sweet, juicy, strawberry-red flesh. Harvest August to October. Naturally small (semi-dwarf) tree. Self-fruitful. Usually my largest fruit.

Black Mission Fig

The favorite. Purplish-black skin, strawberry- colored flesh, rich flavor. Heavy bearing, long-lived, large tree. Coast or inland. Fresh/dry/can. Self-fruitful.

Brunswick Fig

Very good; sweet and rich, but sours in rainy weather. Large, brownish skin, reddish pulp. Coarse skin. Used mostly for preserves without the skin in Texas.

Celeste Fig

Excellent; sweet and rich. Small, bluish purple, reddish pulp. Plump, small-to-medium size fruit. Tightly closed eye. Beautiful light-violet to violet-brown skin. Sweet, firm, juicy white flesh resists spoilage. Excellent fresh or dried. Tangy aftertaste when fresh. Small tree.

Col de Dame Fig

 

This is an excellent purple skinned dark red flesh and pulped fig.  It is on the small side and can dry nicely on the tree.  It keeps better than most and the Col is collar in french and refers to it's neck shape.

Conadria Fig

Large, green-yellow skin, reddish pulp. Hybrid of White Adriatic and succulent Caprifig. Released in 1956. Produces excellent figs on coast. Most prolific every year. Skin cracks all over but does not split. Good either fresh or dried. Info. on this variety from Sanders. Medium-to-large fruit with a thin, light-green skin. Light-pink flesh has excellent, rich flavor. Productive, vigorous, disease-resistant, medium-sized tree.

Desert King Fig

The King variety is raised commercially for shipment of the breba crop to fresh market outlets. It produces a prolific breba crop of large, green, thin-skinned fruits. The second crop requires caprification and often is not set or harvested but does well here at MST

Eve's Black Cherry Fig

This lovely fig has deep dark flash and pulp with a breba crop. The very ripe fruit is like a berry.

Excel Fig

 

Medium size, Yellow fruit with amber pulp. Sweet, rich flavor. Resistant to splitting even under adverse conditions. Superb, all purpose fig. Introduced in 1975. Considered very hardy. Is excellent.

Flanders Fig

 Flanders Fig was developed in California and is a long necked, medium sized fig. It has a skin of brownish yellow with violet stripes  with amber flesh. It is an excellent fig with a good breba crop in late June and main crop in late August. Medium sized with a tight eye and good for drying and fresh eating. Outstanding fig.  It is sweet and very rich.

Gros Monstreuse Fig

 

Pale yellow-green fig with strawberry interior. Very sweet, juicy, intense fig flavor. Crunchy seeds. Medium-open eye. Pebbly rough leaves. Medium-to-large tree, does well near the coast.

Igo Fig

 

Igo is a vigorous tree. One crop in fall. Small fruit with spectacular alpine strawberry-like flavor. Green skin that develops into violet blush. Purplish flesh. Should be given warmest possible location. Was collected in 1995 near Redding, CA.

Italian 395 Fig

  Purple-green skin, large, no breba crop, ripens late, long neck, seeded, small tight eye, sweet, tree medium in vigor. One of best flavored in group of the collection brought here from Rome in the 1980 by Todd Kennedy. Huge, purple jammy fruit, better quality inland. 

Jurupa Fig

This is an excellent large green variety with an amber – strawberry pulp inside. The fruit is rich and sweet when the tree is established. Has 2 crops per year, the breba or first crop has fewer but very large figs and the second crop with are medium to large sized and more plentiful.

Kadota Fig

 

Large, light greenish-yellow ‘white’ skin, amber flesh. Long-lived, vigorous. Prune to any shape. Very sweet fruit needs hot weather to ripen. Fresh/dry/can. Self-fruitful.

Osborn Prolific Fig

Medium-to-large, thin-skinned, dark reddish-brown fruit. Medium-open eye. Very sweet, white-to-amber flesh. Adapts to cool, short summers, coastal areas.

Panachee Fig

Especially fine flavor! Small to medium sized fruit, green in color with yellow “tiger” stripes. Strawberry pulp is blood-red in color. Self-fruitful.

Petite Negri Fig

Petite Negri is a large black fig with excellent flavor. One of the best producers for container growing. The tree tends to be smaller but is very productive. Similar to Black Mission and Violet de Bordeaux fig and produces an early and late crop and is self futile.

Sequoia Fig

 

Both Sequoia and Sierra are new crosses produced at UC Davis. A new and distinct variety of Fig tree denominated ‘Sequoia’ is described. The new ‘Sequoia’ fig variety is a high quality, medium to large size, yellow-green skinned fig of the “common” type, developed for use in the fresh market fig industry. The ‘Sequoia’ tree is of medium vigor and size and is a regular and productive bearer, developing both a Breba and second crop in most years. The ‘Sequoia’ has a tight ostiole that substantially restricts the entry of most insects into the interior of the fig fruit. It is under patent and I do not sell cuttings.

Sierra Fig

The Sierra fig is a sweet and mild variety with a soft, almost creamy interior. It has a yellow-green exterior skin. The Sierra was introduced by University of California Cooperative Extension (Kearney) breeders in 2005 to be used by growers in the Central Valley. Sierra is suitable for both fresh and dried fig. They have yellow-green skin and reddish-amber pulp.

Snowden Fig

This is a Smyrna type fig which needs the fig wasp for pollination. The yellow fig has amber flesh and a sweet flavor and is good fresh or dried. Is an open eye fig.

Texas Blue Giant Fig

 

'Blue Giant' is a fig developed in Texas that has extra large figs with purple skin and amber pulp. It is good fresh or dried. This is one of the best fig selections if you live in warm-winter areas, being such a nice, large fig.

Texas Everlasting Fig

'Texas Everbearing' is sometimes compared to Brown Turkey. It has the same cold hardiness and the fruit are nearly the same in taste. It bears well and with good growing conditions will bear two crops a year.

Violette de Bordeaux Fig

Small to medium size purple-black fruit with a very deep red strawberry pulp, a distinctive sweet rich flavor. Brebas are pyriform with a thick, tapering neck; main crop figs are variable often without neck. Medium eye. Excellent fresh or dried. Breba crop, hardy. Good for container culture or small spaces.

White Genoa Fig

Old variety, a favorite in cool coastal areas–also excellent inland. Greenish-yellow skin, amber flesh, distinctive flavor. Prune to any shape. Self-fruitful.
